AdapCS signs with GE
AdapCS, Inc. of Marina, California has announced a new relationship with General Electric Medical Systems, of Milwaukee, WI. According to Kelly O'Keefe, M.D., Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Technical Officer at AdapCS, his company has been engaged to modify GE's clinical outcomes product, DYNAMO, for use in the Canadian healthcare market. DYNAMO, which stands for Dynamic Analysis of Measured Outcomes, is currently marketed by GE Medical Systems to US hospitals. It is an online data warehouse tool that allows hospitals to measures the quality and cost of patient care.
Dr. O'Keefe and several members of the AdapCS team were involved in the creation of DYNAMO in the mid-1990's by Clinical Dynamics, Inc. of Santa Cruz, California. Through a series of corporate acquisitions, DYNAMO became a GE product in early 2000. "Budget constraints and increasing demand for public accountability are driving the Canadian healthcare system towards a more data-driven approach to managing care systems," says Dr. O'Keefe.
After reviewing the reporting capability of DYNAMO, the Ontario Hospital Association and the Ontario Ministry of Health, via their Joint Procedures and Policies Committee, have proposed a region-wide pilot in which a dozen or so hospitals will test the use of DYNAMO in analyzing data from all hospitals in the province using the CIHI data set, which is the collection of standard discharge data that all hospitals send to the Ministry each year. The CIHI data set will be enhanced with the addition of financial data from the JPPC and an expanded data set from all hospitals in OHA Region 2, which corresponds to southeast Ontario.
The pilot will be a public-private partnership sponsored by Kingston General Hospital, GE Medical Systems Canada, and the OHA. AdapCS has signed a contract with GE Medical Systems for software development and operational delivery for the pilot hospitals. Transition to operational support from GE Medical Systems staff is planned for post-pilot market rollout.
The pilot is scheduled to begin in July and continue through December with province-wide market release anticipated in February 2003.
