AdapCS to support development of local managed healthcare system

AdapCS, Inc. of Marina, California has committed support for the development of a local managed healthcare system. The Community HealthCare Corporation (CHC), based in Monterey, California County, is health plan initiative that manages insurance products for self-insured employers and Medicare recipients.

CHC was launched by a consortium of employers, physicians, Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. Its products are marketed in a community of 350,000 located on California's central coast. The new initiative will take the form of a managed care offering and has been created in response to needs identified by employers and providers. "We will be working with CHC to support the clinical systems side of their offering," says Kurt Sligar, M.D., M.H.A., the President and CEO of AdapCS.

Dr. Sligar, who lives in Carmel - one of the areas to be served by the plan - was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the 2.3-million-member Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Massachusetts before joining AdapCS late last year. Prior to that he served as Chief Operating Officer for Catholic Health Initiative, a 72-hospital healthcare system with facilities in 22 states. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for Catholic Healthcare West, a 3-state delivery system composed of 30 hospitals and six doctors groups. Beginning in January 2004, Dr. Sligar will be working with the other physicians on staff with AdapCS as well as the providers and insurance carries associated with CHC to craft the sort of local private health insurance offering that is said to be reflective of the future in health insurance. "Such local consortia are an increasing trend in healthcare delivery", says Dr. Sligar, "and they have the potential to answer some of the problems that have plagued larger scale systems that frequently have providers, payors and patients all pulling in different directions".
